Today, I’m going to tell you a super simple and delicious recipe – Tomato Saar!
Even if you don’t have chapati or bhakri at home, this spicy, comforting saar with rice makes for a perfect meal!

📝 Ingredients Required:

  • 3 medium-sized tomatoes
  • 2–3 green chillies
  • 1/2 inch piece of ginger
  • 2 garlic cloves (optional)
  • Salt – to taste
  • 2 tablespoons dry grated coconut (or fresh coconut)

For the tempering:

  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric
  • A pinch of asafoetida (hing)
  • 1 teaspoon oil / ghee
  • A pinch of sugar (optional)
  • Some coriander leaves for garnish

🍲 Method:

  1. Pressure cook all the ingredients: Add tomatoes, chillies, ginger, garlic (optional), and a little water into a pressure cooker. Cook for 2 whistles.
  2. Make a paste in the blender: Once the mixture cools, add the coconut and blend into a fine paste.

  1. Prepare the tempering: Heat oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds, turmeric, and asafoetida. Once the cumin crackles, add the tomato paste.
  2. Make the saar: Add water as per your preferred consistency. Add salt to taste, a pinch of sugar, and chopped coriander. Bring it to a good boil.

🍚 Serving Suggestion:

This spicy tomato saar is best served hot with steamed rice.
It’s perfectly okay if there’s no chapati or bhakri, but rice is a must!
